Max Effort Back Squat + NorCal CF Games Qualifier Workout A

  • Row 500m
  • 30 Burpees
  • 10 Shoulder-to-Overhead [165#] (strict press, push press, jerk)

Notes

The squat is more than a few lbs below my likely 1RM. Dunno what the issue was, but I couldn’t get out of the hole this morning. I did this as a 3RM a little over a week ago. I’m eating better of late and I’m feeling pretty good. I may need to eat a bit more, so I’ve given myself permission to exceed my 21 blocks on particularly hard days.

On Eating Paleo

On a related note, I’m finding it really logisitically difficult to eat 100% paleo. I cannot, for me, find a more effective post-workout carb than oatmeal w/ a bit of honey. It’s not 100% paleo, but it feels good and my performance is a lot more consistent when I’m using it as a post-workout staple. I currently eat .5-.66 cups w/ 1 or 2 teaspoons of honey/maple syrup. I’m certainly open to other suggestions, but nothing I’ve tried (fruit, sweet potatoes) works as well.

My other vice is an occasional protein bar and/or yogurt w/ protein powder. I’ve gotta eat 150 grams of protein per day, and I’ve got a tough time ensuring that I can get all the protein in for each snack/meal using just paleo sources (basically meat & nuts). Again, convenient, portable, economical suggestions are welcome.
